How to Clean an Oven for Your Bond Inspection

Ask any Perth property manager where bonds most often come unstuck, and the oven is near the top of the list. Baked-on grease and carbon are exactly the kind of detail an exit inspection is designed to catch — and a single greasy oven can trigger a re-clean fee taken straight from your deposit. Here’s how to bring yours back to standard.

What inspectors actually look at

A property manager doesn’t just glance through the door. They check the oven door glass (inside and out), the racks, the base, the walls and roof of the cavity, the griller, the rangehood and its filter, and the stovetop and knobs. If carbon build-up or grease is visible on any of these, it gets flagged.

Step by step

1. Take out the racks. Soak them in hot water with a degreaser or dishwashing liquid while you work on the cavity — a laundry sink or bath lined with a towel works well.

2. Apply oven cleaner to the cavity. Use a proper oven degreaser on the base, walls and roof, avoiding the fan and element. Give it the time stated on the label to break down the carbon — rushing this is where most people go wrong.

3. Do the door glass. The double glass is what inspectors see first. A paste of bicarb and water, left to sit, lifts most baked-on residue; a razor scraper (used flat and carefully) handles the stubborn spots.

4. Wipe out and rinse. Remove the cleaner and residue with a damp cloth, then go back over with clean water so no chemical film is left.

5. Rangehood and filter. Degrease the rangehood and soak the metal filter — a greasy filter is an easy flag that’s easy to miss.

Ovens are the single most time-consuming part of a move-out clean, and heavy carbon can take hours with supermarket products.
